Safe harbor prison program for dog

I should have tried anyway. Not perfect, but close to it. She said he was the best dog handler among the inmates and that dogs were drawn to him. Kirby believed Manard was a dog whisperer. Then after a week with Manard, she walked beautifully on leash. One week! She said Manard, who was serving a life term for a carjacking and slaying, was a different person around the dogs. Kirby said she puts a lot of trust in dogs being the best judges of character.

The handlers work tremendously on socialization with the dogs at first, then they work with the dogs on housetraining and leash training, and basic commands. All dogs are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and current on heartworm preventative. Good day, and good dog! They also have a prison rescue program in Maricopa County Arizona. It is the only good thing that Sheriff Joe does…as far as I am concerned. Several years ago I found an ill nursing mom dog on the street, and the pups were no where to be found.

The van has the lettering www. Manard, in prison for first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and possession of firearms, escaped from prison Sunday. Young, who worked with Manard in the dog rescue program, is missing, and authorities said Monday that she may be with Manard. Young has been president of the Safe Harbor Prison Dogs program since its founding. Currently nearly 50 dogs are in the program, which receives dogs from animal shelters across northeast Kansas and matches them with inmates who feed, groom and socialize the dogs to improve their chances of being placed in a new home.

Safe Harbor picked her up for the program, and there she will stay until she finds a new home. When a dog comes into the program, it is tested for heartworms, has its vaccinations updated and is spayed or neutered. The dog is then paired with an inmate at the Lansing prison who has undergone an application process and background check.

With an average of 70 dogs in the prison at any time and more than 3, dogs adopted into homes, Brett Peterson said he and the other Safe Harbor workers were proud of their work. The program brings staff and inmates together, Brett Peterson said, and contributes to a happier, safer environment in the prison. That makes things safer for our staff and inmates. Though word was rapidly spreading about the worker who contributed to a prison break, the event did not slow Safe Harbor's stride in the least, Brett Peterson said.
