Sell student games 2014
The vast majority of tickets that are available are because student numbers are down. In March, Michigan scrapped its one-year general admission student football ticket policy after poor reviews from students during the season. And, unlike last year, the price of a student season ticket will not increase in Under the new policy, sections will be assigned to students based on their attendance of games during the previous season.
Student ticket numbers are on the decline across the country, and Michigan is no exception. Part of the decline for this season's numbers may be chalked up to a national trend, it could be due to a poor home schedule and it could be due to the team's overall struggles a year ago -- or, perhaps a combination of everything.
The student numbers will be lower this year, and the parameters of the student section inside Michigan Stadium will likely shrink because of that. However, if for some reason Michigan finds itself looking at a higher number than originally projected come fall, every student wishing to purchase a student season ticket will be provided an opportunity to do so in the designated student section.
And, next year, if that student number goes back up, we'll be able to accomodate them. Michigan, the winningest program in the history of college football, sold tickets to its opener against Appalachian State on sites like Groupon. It's combating a roughly 7,per-game drop in student sales in just 12 months. Michigan, whose games against Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State are all away from Ann Arbor, is expecting to sell just 12, student tickets after reaching 19, in Even mighty Alabama, a perennial national title favorite, has seen student interest wane at times.
The Crimson Tide are among many teams that sell their full allotment of student tickets — then watch with frustration as thousands of kids choose to stay home on game day. Last year, nearly 5, student seats went empty for an Alabama game against Georgia State despite initiatives such as electronic ticket swapping and incentives tied to attendance.
Tennessee saw its student ticket sales jump from 5, to 7, last season as coach Butch Jones took over for Derek Dooley, and the Vols sold all of its nearly 12, student tickets for last weekend's romp over Utah State. Struggling Iowa State, the Hawkeyes' in-state rival, has also had good student ticket sales — but why is a bit of a head-scratcher.
The Cyclones have sold all of their roughly 8, student tickets for the third year in a row — and this year they did it faster than ever despite a record in and scant evidence that things will improve this fall. According to athletic director Jamie Pollard, increased student enrollment, recent stadium renovations and a parking layout favorable to tailgating have played a role in the record numbers.
